You bring Christina in for her check-up. You ask to speak to the doctor in private and tell him that you’re concerned that John has been mistreating her.

The doctor pats you on the back. “My wife used to say the same thing. It’s that maternal instinct. You know there’s no substitute for a mother’s love. But don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your daughter.” He gives Christina a grape lollipop.
