You’re embarrassed to talk to your priest, but he’s told you countless times that he’s there for you, anytime. You describe some of the things that have been going on, the name calling, the food throwing, shoving and your priest tells you that it’s the husband’s role to rule the household and decide family matters.

The priest tells you to be obedient to God and to your husband. He advises you to go home and pray to be a better wife, so your husband won’t have to raise his voice or call you names. God, he tells you, will keep your marriage strong.

In the meantime, he says that you also need to take care of yourself. Maybe a weekend at your mother’s house? Or maybe something to make you feel good about yourself, like a facial or a new hairdo.
